A major office-to-residential conversion in downtown Montreal is nearing completion as the historic Standard Life building is reborn as Le Samuel. The project transforms the long-time office tower into modern rental apartments while preserving its architectural character.

Originally built in the early 1960s as the Canadian headquarters of Standard Life, the tower at 1245 Sherbrooke Street West has been a recognizable part of Montreal’s Golden Square Mile for decades.

After standing largely vacant in recent years, the property is being redeveloped into 211 residential units, bringing new life to the prominent downtown location.

The redevelopment maintains many of the building’s original structural advantages, including its steel frame, large windows and efficient floorplates, which made it well-suited for conversion to residential living.

Le Samuel will offer spacious apartments with nine-foot ceilings and layouts designed to take advantage of the building’s natural light and views of the surrounding neighbourhood.

With doors expected to open this summer, the project represents one of Montreal’s most significant office-to-residential conversions and reflects a growing trend of repurposing office space to meet housing demand.
